As the debate over whether the UK will hit its target of 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050 heats up, businesses and organisations across the UK have been finding out how they can stay one step ahead in the energy stakes at Ignition09 – the UK’s first dedicated wood fuel expo - which was officially launched today by leading sustainable development expert, Jonathon Porritt.
With wood fuel being identified by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) as being the lowest cost effective way to deliver renewable energy, Ignition09 - which is a free event - will be a unique opportunity for businesses and organisations to find out more about its benefits and savings both financially and environmentally.
Jonathon Porritt – Programme Director of Forum for the Future and Chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) – has been announced as special guest speaker at Ignition09 - the UK’s first dedicated wood fuel expo taking place at The Sage Gateshead on 11th - 12th March 2009.
Sainsbury’s has installed a wood pellet boiler in its new Alnwick store in Northumberland as part of its ongoing commitment to reduce its impact on the environment. The sophisticated biomass technology was introduced following an in depth feasibility study undertaken by NEWHeat – a One NorthEast funded initiative designed to encourage businesses to switch their heat energy supply to wood heat.
Battlesteads Country Inn and Restaurant in Northumberland, has installed a state-of-the-art wood chip boiler to ensure better value for money and reduce carbon emissions, thanks to a feasibility study undertaken by NEWHeat – a One NorthEast funded initiative designed to encourage businesses to switch their heat energy supply to wood heat.
